2017 Wisconsin Act 33 - Good Samaritan from Revocation
Passed as January 2017 Special Session Assembly Bill 3, Act 33 provides immunity from revocation of probation, parole, or extended supervision for a person who aids someone suffering a drug overdose and the aided person (provided they attend a treatment program following the incident. It also requires a prosecutor to offer a deferred prosecution for a possession offense to the aided person.
Act 33 takes effect on July 19, 2017 and has a 3 year sunset date of August 1, 2020.
2017 Wisconsin Act 34 - Civil commitment for drug treatment
Passed as January 2017 Special Session Assembly Bill 5, Act 34 allows for a three party petition seeking a Chapter 51 mental health commitment for drug dependency treatment.
Act 34 takes effect on July 19, 2017.
